Worried about cycling and Coronavirus?
Cycling UK have produced this page with guidance on what you should and shouldn't do. Group rides and trips to pubs and cafes should be avoided but as long as you're well and not self-isolating then cycling is still fine. Getting out into the fresh air and getting some exercise will be important over the coming weeks.

Enjoy the quieter roads over the next few weeks, but be careful - quieter roads can mean faster drivers, and everyone is a bit distracted at the moment!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON COVID-19
Tuesday 17th March 2020

Based on the latest Government guidance around Coronavirus/COVID-19, British Triathlon and the 3 Home Nations (Triathlon England, Triathlon Scotland and Welsh Triathlon) have suspended organised triathlon activity with immediate effect until at least 30 April.

We have not taken this decision lightly but in the light of the rapidly changing situation, we feel it is essential. Based on the governmentโ€™s advice to restrict unnecessary travel and contact with others, we feel that it is our duty to take these steps to help protect the health and wellbeing of athletes, officials, volunteers and spectators and to alleviate the risk of an additional burden on the emergency services at hugely testing time.

The list of suspended activity includes but may not be limited to:

- All permitted events in England, Scotland and Wales.

- All British Triathlon, Triathlon England, Triathlon Scotland and Welsh Triathlon championships and events, including Age Group Qualifiers.

- Face-to-face Coach Education โ€“ Anyone in the middle of a course will be contacted about how this will continue separately.

- Pathway Activity โ€“ All planned camps and performance assessment activity.

- Regional events in England.

We recognise that this news will be disappointing, and potentially worrying, for some but ask for your support as we navigate through this difficult time.

We have also advised all affiliated clubs, coaches, regional committees and academies to suspend face-to-face meetings, events (including social), camps and training groups.

Dumfries & Galloway Triathlon Club is feeling sad.Tuesday, March 17th, 2020 at 1:16pm
Afternoon All,

Following the most recent statement from the Prime Minister yesterday, and advice from various sporting bodies the decision has been made to suspend ALL Club Training Sessions with immediate effect. Initial estimates are that this suspension will likely remain in force until the end of April 2020 as a minimum, with a potential that the suspension be extended based on the prevailing guidance from the Government and Triathlon Scotland at the time.

This is in line with the social distancing measures suggested by the Government, but as this is an ever evolving situation we cannot provide any more clarity on when we will resume formal club training sessions at the current time.

This also means that at least the early GP Series Events being the 400m Swim, 750m Swim and the Park Run event for the GP Series will not be taking place. The remaining events in the GP Series are also in question at the current time.

We will keep you up to date with developments as we receive them.

In the interim the please follow all the guidance from the NHS and other bodies regarding keeping safe and well. (see below)

Further Advice

Further advice for the public is available through NHS Inform (https://www.nhsinform.scot/coronavirus).

The Scottish Government is also putting out the latest information and advice through social media channels, and on the Scottish Government website (https://www.gov.scot/coronavirus-covid-19/).

People can reduce the risk of acquiring and spreading respiratory infections by:

Avoiding direct hand contact with your eyes, nose and mouth
Maintaining good hand hygiene
Washing hands with soap and water or alcohol hand sanitiser, after coughing, sneezing or going to the toilet, and prior to eating and drinking
Avoiding direct contact with people that have a respiratory illness and not using their personal items such as their mobile phone
Covering your nose and mouth with disposable tissues when coughing or sneezing and disposing of the tissues in the nearest waste bin after use

We appreciate how disappointing this is, but we have to do our part during these unprecedented times, and as soon as the guidance changes we will apprise you of the situation.

One small glimmer of hope is that current advice is that exercise is recommended even when in isolation. So keep up the training and we look forward to seeing you all again once we resume club training sessions.

Regards

Craig
